911 R

2016Coupé

The 911 R is the 991's purist statement: GT3 RS mechanicals stripped of wing, roll cage and aero clutter. Its 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six makes 500 PS (368 kW; 493 hp) and 460 Nm (339 lb-ft), revs to 9,000 rpm and drives the rear wheels through a six-speed manual with a short-throw lever. At 1,370 kg (3,020 lb) it was the lightest 911 of its era, needing 3.8 s to 100 km/h and running to 323 km/h (201 mph) — quicker than the winged RS because of lower drag. Carbon buckets with Pepita cloth, pull-strap door releases, PCCB ceramics and a numbered aluminium badge mark each of the 991 cars built for 2016.
