992.1—2018–2024
992.1 Generation
Wide-body 911s, a 650 PS Turbo, 1,963 S/Ts
Unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show on 28 November 2018, the 992 arrived as the eighth generation of the 911 and as the moment the wide body stopped being a privilege of the Turbo models: for the first time every car in the range — Carrera, Targa, GTS, GT3 — carries the flared rear arches and 20-inch front/21-inch rear wheels that had previously marked out only the top performers. Styled under Michael Mauer by Ben Baum, it grew 45 mm (1.8 in) wider than the 991 on an unchanged 2,450 mm (96.5 in) wheelbase, added aluminium body panels, pop-out door handles and a full-length rear light bar, and put the driver's instruments back into two screens either side of a central analogue rev counter.
The first phase, known as 992.1, ran entirely on turbocharged flat-sixes. The 2,981 cc unit made 385 PS in the Carrera and Carrera T, 450 PS in the S models and 480 PS in the GTS, while a 3,745 cc twin-VTG engine covered the 550 PS Sport Classic, the 580 PS Turbo and the 650 PS Turbo S. An entirely new eight-speed PDK was the only gearbox at launch; the seven-speed manual reached the S and 4S in 2019, and the six-speed GT manual arrived with the GT3 in 2021. Porsche Wet Mode — acoustic sensors in the wheel arches reading the surface and adjusting stability control, wing position and gearbox response — and the 10.9-inch Porsche Communication Management display were both new for the generation.

What the sources do not settle (10)
+
- 01Porsche has not published a dated cumulative production total for the 992. The '60 Years of the 911' press-kit page states '96,603 examples having left the factory by the end of last year' but carries no publication date, so the reference year cannot be verified and the figure is not used in this file.
- 02Roster id 'turbo-gt' (911 Turbo GT) has no Porsche nameplate equivalent in either 992 phase — the 992.2 range-topper is officially the 911 Turbo S. The id is retained with verified 992.2 Turbo S data; the lead may prefer to move it to data/generations/992-2.json.
- 03No Porsche production figure published for the 992.1 GT3 RS.
- 04911 Sport Classic: 0–100 km/h time, top speed and DIN kerb weight not confirmed from a Porsche primary source in this session (left null).
- 05992.1 Nürburgring Nordschleife lap times (GT3 6:55.34; GT3 RS 6:44.848 and 6:49.328) taken from Wikipedia's 992 performance table; Porsche's own lap-time press releases were not located in this session.
- 06Race-only 992.1 derivatives (911 GT3 R, 911 RSR, 911 GT3 R Rennsport) and GT Cup / GT3 Cup entries are outside this generation's road-variant scope and were not added.
- 07Market-limited 992.1 editions not in data/roster.json (Belgian Legend 75, Ben Pon Jr. 20, Edition 50 Years Porsche Design 750, GTS America Edition 115, GTS Le Mans Centenaire 75, GT3 30 Years Porsche Supercup, GT3 RS Carrera RS Tribute 150, Embraer Duet 10, China 20th Anniversary 20, Sally Special one-off) were not added as separate variants.
- 08Roster id "turbo-gt" (911 Turbo GT) had no Porsche nameplate equivalent in 992.1 — the 911 Turbo GT belongs to the 991.2 range; the placeholder variant was removed and 992-1/turbo-s carries the verified 992.1 Turbo S data.
- 09911 GT3 R (992.1, 2023) is a customer racing car for the GT3 R Twincup, described by Porsche as a Kundensport-Rennwagen, not a road-legal variant, so it is deliberately not modelled here
- 10The roster id `992-1/turbo-gt` has been removed as invalid: there is no 911 Turbo GT in either 992 phase (the Turbo GT is a 991.2 car, now modelled as 991/turbo-gt). This generation file has never contained a placeholder variant for it
