911 2.0

1964–1967Coupé · Targa

The car that started it all. Series production of the 130 PS 2.0-litre began in September 1964, and the first 82 cars carried 901 badges before Peugeot's objection forced the rename; part numbers kept the 901 prefix for years. Engine, transaxle, rack-and-pinion steering, MacPherson front struts and semi-trailing-arm rear suspension were all new, and Erwin Komenda fused them into a self-supporting shell drawn by Butzi Porsche — headlight tunnels, flat bonnet between them, hatchback with a large rear window. Coupe only until the Targa arrived in 1967. Porsche quoted 1,030 kg, 210 km/h and 0–60 mph in 8.3 s; the 2.0 stayed the constant throughout its run while trim, instruments and details changed constantly.
