911 T/R

1968Coupé

The first homologation special built on the 911, and the reason the T/R exists at all. When the FIA reclassified the 911 T into the same class as the 911 S in 1968, Porsche could no longer supply rally customers with a homologation car, because the T road car weighed 54 kg more than the S — the wrong way round for competition. The answer was the T/R: the light 911 T chassis carrying the S/R's more powerful racing engine, built in 1968 for privateers who wanted to do both road and rally. It also foreshadowed the shape of everything that followed — a stripped, homologated 911 as the basis for a factory race programme.
