911 Carrera Cabriolet

1990–1994Cabriolet

The Cabriolet was added to the 964 range for the 1990 model year alongside the Targa and the rear-drive Carrera 2, eight months after the Coupé-only Carrera 4 launched. Mechanically it is simply the same car with a folding fabric roof in place of the fixed roof or removable targa panel, and it retained the retractable rear spoiler, the cowled underbody, ABS and the upright 1960s-derived dashboard. The 964 Cabriolet proved to be the most commercially successful open 964 by a wide margin, with 11,013 rear-drive and 4,802 all-wheel-drive examples, and it was particularly strong in North America. A wide-bodied Turbo-Look version, sold in the United States as the America Roadster, accounted for a further 1,532, and the Speedster shared the same platform. Cabriolet production ran to January 1994, three months before the 964 Coupé and Targa finished.
