911 Carrera 2 Turbo-Look

1992–1993Coupé · Cabriolet

From late 1991 Porsche offered the rear-drive Carrera 2 Coupé and Cabriolet with the Turbo's wide bodywork, badged simply “Turbo-Look”. It was more than a styling exercise: the pack brought the Turbo 3.3's body shell, chassis, braking system and wheels, so the naturally aspirated 250 PS car gained the 322 mm front discs, stiffer springs, thicker anti-roll bars and wider tyres that made the 964 Turbo so good. The narrow-bodied 964 Cabriolet roofline finally matched the beltline, because the arches had grown. Porsche launched three exclusive colours for it — Raspberry Red Metallic, Wimbledon Green Metallic and Lavender Blue Metallic — and in the United States the same car was sold under the America Roadster name. As with the Carrera 4, Porsche never used “Carrera 2S” on a 964; that badge arrived with the 993 Carrera S.

What the sources do not settle (4)

  • Naming: data/roster.json and the task brief call this “911 Carrera 2S”, but Porsche did not badge any 964 as Carrera 2S — the 964 wide-body rear-drive Carrera was the Carrera 2 (Turbo-Look) and the US-market Cabriolet was the America Roadster. The “S” name arrived with the 993 Carrera S in model year 1997. Roster id unchanged per contract; only the display name was corrected.
  • The 1,532 figure counts Turbo-Look Cabriolets only (Stuttcars). No verified count for the Turbo-Look Coupé exists in the sources checked.
  • Curb weight for the Turbo-Look body could not be verified; left null.
  • Porsche's own 964 overview describes the Turbo-look model as a “Carrera 2 Cabriolet” sold from 1992; the Supercar Nostalgia guide says the pack covered both Coupé and Cabriolet from August 1991.
