911 Carrera 4 Turbo-Look

1992–1994Coupé

As the 964 range matured, Porsche began bolting the Turbo's wide bodywork onto the naturally aspirated Carreras. On the all-wheel-drive side this arrived late, as a 1994 model-year wide-body Carrera 4 Coupé, and it is the direct ancestor of the 993 Carrera 4S and the 996 Carrera 4S. The flared Turbo shell gave the car far more visual presence than the narrow 964, and the Turbo-Look package also brought the bigger brakes, stiffer suspension, thicker anti-roll bars and wider wheels and tyres from the 3.3 Turbo, while the normally aspirated 250 PS M64 engine stayed in the back. One North American listing describes such a car as 1 of 267 wide-body coupés ever produced. Note that Porsche never badged a 964 as “Carrera 4S” — the S designation arrived with the 993 in model year 1996.

What the sources do not settle (4)

  • Naming: data/roster.json and the task brief call this “911 Carrera 4S”, but Porsche did not badge any 964 as Carrera 4S — the 964 wide-body Carrera was the Carrera 4 (Turbo-Look), and the “4S” name first appeared on the 993 in model year 1996 (PCA). The roster id is unchanged per contract; only the display name was corrected. Lead may wish to relabel the roster entry.
  • No official Porsche production total for the 964 Carrera 4 Turbo-Look could be verified. The 267 figure comes from a North American retail listing and is unconfirmed.
  • Curb weight, torque and drivetrain detail for the wide-body C4 could not be verified from a primary or Porsche-owned source; weight is left null.
  • Start year 1992 is inferred from the Turbo-Look pack launch; Stuttcars dates the 964 Carrera 4 (Turbo-Look) specifically to 1994.
