911 Carrera RSR 3.8

1993–1994Coupé

The RSR 3.8 was a factory-built competition car, not a road model, delivered to privateers in “just add driver” form. Each standard 964 shell was seam-welded and sent to Matter for a fully triangulated roll cage; the running gear went to Uniball joints, fully adjustable Bilstein dampers and adjustable anti-roll bars, on 18-inch centre-lock Speedline wheels with Turbo S brakes and retuned racing ABS. A one-piece fibreglass engine lid carried the rear wing assembly. Porsche's works car debuted at the 1993 12 Hours of Sebring and finished seventh overall and first in class with Brumos; the following year a 993-based 3.6 twin-turbo version run by Larbre Compétition won the 24 Hours of Daytona class and took four outright wins. The RSR programme pointed directly at the 993 GT2.

What the sources do not settle (4)

  • Production total conflicts: 51 including the prototype (Gooding, RM Sotheby's, classic.com) vs 45 (Stuttcars). Both recorded.
  • Output is not a single figure: Porsche claimed 325 hp @ 6,900 rpm, race reports cite 375 bhp unrestricted and 360 bhp with the 48 mm restrictor, and 325–350 hp depending on series. powerPs/powerKw are left null rather than picking one.
  • No verified torque figure for the RSR 3.8; left null.
  • The 1994 car was privately run by Larbre Compétition with a 993-based 3.6 twin-turbo rather than the works 3.2 twin-turbo of 1993 (475 hp); the drivetrain line refers to the 1993 works car.
