911 Speedster

1993–1994Speedster · Roadster

The 1993 Speedster was Porsche's second-generation open-top 911 and a deliberate change of character from the 1989 car, which was really a 930 in disguise. This one sat on the new Carrera 2 platform with a raked, chopped-down windscreen, single-piece side windows, a lightweight manual roof that stowed under a distinctive double-bubble body-coloured cover, and a stylised Speedster script on the engine lid. Porsche called it a hybrid between a Carrera 2 Cabriolet and a Carrera RS: softer than the RS suspension but stripped of almost all the Cabriolet's comforts, with power windows standard and air conditioning and a stereo optional. A Clubsport lightweight version was offered. Of only 27 right-hand-drive cars, 13 were UK-spec, 8 Australian, 4 Singapore and the rest Hong Kong.
