911 Carrera 4

1998–2004Coupé · Cabriolet

From October 1998 the 996 range gained permanent all-wheel drive, a system that sent between five and forty percent of torque to the front wheels as conditions demanded. The Carrera 4 was the accessible way into four-wheel-drive 911 traction, sharing the 3.4-litre 300 PS engine with the rear-drive Carrera and taking on the 320 PS 3.6-litre when the cabriolet was updated for 2002. The narrow-body coupé ended its run in 2001, making way for the wide-bodied Carrera 4S, while the Carrera 4 Cabriolet — with its Z-fold roof and removable hardtop — continued until 2004.
