911 Targa

2002–2005Targa

Available from December 2001, the 996 Targa replaced the old lift-off roof panel with an electrically operated glass surface of more than 16 square feet (roughly 1.5 m²) — the largest glass area ever fitted to a 911 — and, for the first time, a rear window that powered upwards. Unusually for a 996 badged Targa, it was rear-wheel drive; the Targa 4 and Targa 4S names only arrived with the 997. The 3.6-litre 320 PS flat-six and six-speed manual gave 0–100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and 285 km/h, at a 1,415 kg kerb weight.
