2006–2012Targa

The Targa 4S paired the glass-roof and lightweight magnesium roof panel of the Targa 4 with the wider Carrera 4S body and the 3.8-litre flat-six. Output followed the S family: 355 PS (350 hp) at the 2006 launch, 385 PS (380 hp) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) after direct fuel injection was introduced for 2008. The 997 brochure figures give 4.9 s to 100 km/h with the manual and a 298 km/h (185 mph) maximum, marginally slower than the equivalent coupé because of the added glass roof. All-wheel drive, PASM and 19-inch wheels completed a grand-touring two-plus-two that offered open-air motoring without the weight and body-flex compromises of a full convertible.
