911 Turbo

2006–2013Coupé · Cabriolet

The 997 Turbo went on sale in June 2006 as the first petrol series-production car with variable turbine geometry on its twin-turbocharged flat-six. The 3.6-litre engine developed 480 PS (473 hp) and 620 Nm (457 lb-ft) rising to 680 Nm (502 lb-ft) under overboost, cutting 41 kg (90 lb) of weight against the 996 Turbo through thinner walls in the aluminium body, a lithium-ion starter battery and lighter wheels. The wide Turbo body borrowed its front end from the Carrera 4S and added large air intakes ahead of the rear wheels, plus bi-xenon headlamps with washers and 19-inch polished alloys as standard. For 2009 the displacement grew to 3.8 litres with direct injection, output rose to 500 PS (493 hp) and the seven-speed PDK replaced the Tiptronic S.
